Lenzing Fibers are the 2011 World Champions
 LENZING    19 October 2011

The protective fiber Lenzing FR® and the workwear fiber TENCEL® proved themselves by winning two world championship titles at the World Police & Fire Games 2011 in New York. Lenzing is inviting the world champions Herbert Krenn and Gottfried Post to the A+A 2011 in Düsseldorf.

Lenzing sponsored the Austrian firefighter Herbert Krenn with clothing made of Lenzing FR® and police officer Gottfried Post with t-shirts of TENCEL® at the World Police & Fire Games 2011 in New York. Both athletes won gold medals. The World Police & Fire Games multi-sport event has been held since 1985 for members of public safety organizations and comprises 70 types of athletic events with 16,000 participants. After the Olympic Games, it is the largest international sports event.

Lenzing FR® - the fiber with integrated flame protection for superior performance in extreme situations
All over the world the flame-resistant fiber Lenzing FR® is known as a skin-friendly protective fiber. For almost a year, Lenzing FR® has outfitted Herbert Krenn in the various competitions in which he has participated. Krenn says of Lenzing FR®, “The fiber offers protection from overheating and excessive perspiration. Lenzing FR® clothing doesn't inhibit me or irritate me during the competitions, so nothing interferes with my complete concentration. These advantages are not only important in contests. Since I am also a member of the voluntary fire brigade, these properties could also save lives when I am on a job. Working with Lenzing made me realize just how important the correct choice of clothing materials actually is.“ At the World Police & Fire Games Herbert Krenn defended his world champion title and this year won gold yet again. He worked hard for his “Ultimate Firefighter“ title. “For us it is both an honor and our good fortune that we sponsor the world champion, Herbert Krenn,” says Lenzing Marketing Director, Andreas Dorner. “Our Lenzing FR® fiber offers unique heat insulation properties combined with permanent flame-resistance. The benefits are especially important in situations when the body can overheat such as at work or during intensive competition. Due to the natural origin of Lenzing FR®, the fiber delivers good moisture management and outstanding temperature control This gives the wearer a competitive edge as Herbert Krenn demonstrated in New York.“

TENCEL® - functional fiber in contests
The cellulosic functional fiber, TENCEL®, can be found in a range of different applications such as for corporate fashion, professional clothing in the food service industry and in uniforms. At the World Police & Fire Games 2011 the world champion in the Pistol Police Action event (practical pistol shooting), Gottfried Post, wore TENCEL® in the events. The fiber is characterized by a wide range of properties which support the wearer both during competition and in the real working world. Reduced bacterial growth, the very best skin-sensory properties, and excellent moisture management performance guarantee optimum wear comfort.

The policeman, Gottfried Post, gives his verdict about TENCEL® following the competition. “The highest possible concentration in shooting competition is an absolute must. Nothing should distract you. My TENCEL® polo shirt was so pleasant to wear that I did not notice it and it also did an excellent job of keeping my skin cool and dry.“ The TENCEL® fiber demonstrated how very robust and versatile it is under the most extreme circumstances.
