In polyester, it was the tenth largest producer of staple fibre and filament yarn and the fifth largest consumer of filament. In viscose, it was the fifth largest consumer of staple fibre and seventh in filament yarn. With an area of 340 million hectares under cotton, Turkey was the seventh largest producer of cotton fibre, the third largest importer of cotton and thus the fourth largest of its consumption.
